Welcome to humdrum: gospel for the everyday

Welcome to humdrum – gospel for the everyday – gospel that uniquely settles in the most routine and ordinary of places; gospel that strolls down aisle three at the grocery store and sits in traffic on Main Street; gospel that weaves itself into the morning coffee-run and the late night at work.

It’s this gospel, gospel for the everyday, that actually awakens life and finds its purpose in the mundane.

It’s easy to see and believe in the movement of the gospel through intentional, spiritual, and radical circumstances but it’s really hard to see and believe in the power of the gospel in the unintentional, less spiritual, less radical and often elusive of circumstances. And, if we’re being honest, the idea of the everyday just isn’t that exciting. Waking up and going to work lacks the spiritual swagger of boarding a plane for the Congo and building an orphanage overseas.

But should it?

What if the next great movement of the gospel lay not in the radical and extreme but in the everyday and the mundane? What if the gospel sunk its teeth into ordinary events and ordinary circumstances?

What would that mean?

What would that look like?

I invite you to re-think the normal and the ordinary. I invite you to believe in the redemptive power of the gospel that moves in ambitious and creative ways, commanding a presence in the most unique of places, most ordinary of situations and most tedious of circumstances. I invite you to encounter in a new way, the everyday.

Welcome to humdrum: a resource of real and relevant ideas for the gospel for the everyday.

“In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.”
